Former Butchers Shop
The butchers and slaughterhouse in the High Street, opposite May's way, was run in the early years of the century by Davis and Sons and then by Buttons, Pearson and finally Giddings , father and son.
It closed as a butchers in 1977 when Alan Stanton bought it and modernised the slaughterhouse.
It remained in use until the early 90's with Jess Bradbury and Albert Webster working as slaughtermen. If a family pig was to be killed then they would go out to the household concerned .
It was not uncommon for pigs to be led along the High Street , squealing all the way
