Memorial to 5th Duke of Grafton
Henry FitzRoy, 5th Duke of Grafton 1790–1863 succeeded to the dukedom in 1844, on the death of his father, the 4th Duke. the Grafton's seat is at Euston Hall, Suffolk, while locally, the dukes used Wakefield Lodge as a summer residence and one which was presumably more accessible from London.

The 5th Duke served as MP for both Thetford and Bury St Edmunds in the early years of the 19th century, and was a veteran of the Napoleonic Wars.

The Duke died at Wakefield in 1863, and there is a memorial to both him and his wife Mary Caroline Berkeley (1795-1873), in the High Street Cemetery. This burial ground was created in the 1840s in addition to St Nicholas churchyard on land given by the 4th Duke.
