The former Blue Ball Pub

Church End 21.JPG

The Blue Ball Inn, which probably dates from the 16th century, closed as a pub in about 1912. To the right of the main building was the brewhouse and to the left were stables used by the Duke when attending church.

It was noted, not only for its curious name but for its even more curious sign, a picture of the globe painted blue with a red heart above it. Beneath it was the Latin inscription Cor Supra Mundum which translates to "Heart above the world"
